REPORTS TO: Job Foreman

SUPERVISES: Apprentice Electrician; Laborer

SCOPE OF WORK:

Work will consist of installation, alterations, additions and/or repairs of electrical systems, conductors and associated materials and equipment within the electrical construction industries and code.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Current Driver’s License and own transportation to job sites and/or VEC shop.

Current State of Nebraska Journeyman License.

High School Graduate, GED or equivalent.  Associates Degree from a qualified Electrical Technology Program preferred.  Some experience in the field or on a construction site preferred.

4 Years of previous electrical experience (Apprentice Electrician).

RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

Performs all electrical tasks with general supervision, possesses Journeyman license through the State of Nebraska, has the ability to read blueprints, terminate cable, install and trouble shoot control wiring from drawing, is able to demonstrate experience factors exceeding an electrical apprentice and must be sufficient on rough-in work.

  1. Installation of electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment.
  2. Perform electrical repairs
  3. Install Feeders.
  4. Wire and conduit sizing.
  5. Switchgear, panels and device installation and termination.
  6. Layout and preparation for installation.
  7. Underground layout and rough-in.
  8. Trace out short circuits in wiring, along with troubleshooting other electrical issues.
  9. Motors and controls – trouble shooting.
  10. Play and layout work for yourself and craft workers in your area, which includes directing electrical apprentices to learn and progress through the trade.
  11. Maintain tools and equipment and keep supplies and parts in order.
  12. Ability to perform skills of Apprentice Electrician and Laborer.
  13. Fully comprehends electrical theory and NFPA 70 National Electric Code.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Positively identify colors of wires.
  2. Comprehend reading and drawing prints and schematics.
  3. Bend conduit by hand with hand benders.
  4. Ability to use all power tools, saws, threaders, wire tuggers, hydraulic benders, knockout punches.
  5. Capable of digging trenches, either by use of hand tools or power equipment.
  6. Operate equipment, trenchers, backhoe, lifts, etc in safe manner.
  7. Practice and comprehend safe work procedures per Company policy.
  8. Operate two – (2) handed tools/equipment, cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, jack hammers.
  9. Operate company trucks with manual and automatic transmission.
  10. Read and interpret maps, instructional manuals, specifications, work site directions, blueprints and written instructions.
  11. Operate and work from mechanical personnel lifts.
  12. Work on energized circuits and equipment with company management approval as outlined in Safety Policy.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull and reach over head.
  2. Lift 50 pounds.
  3. Constant movement of your feet.
  4. Climbing all types of ladders.
  5. Completing over head work for full-day assignments.
  6. Possess good vision (normal or corrected).

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Job requires working in all-weather elements, depending on job location and time of year (heat, cold, rain, snow/ice).
  1. Job requires employees to have personal tools with them at all times.  Waist tool belt as worn weights approximately 30 lbs.
  1. Work from all types of ladders (step ladders up to 14’, “A” frame ladders and all sizes of extension ladders).
  1. Employee’s personal weight and personal tools cannot exceed weight limit of ladder.
  1. Perform work at various heights from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, bucket truck lift, catwalk or other areas.
  1. Work in restricted areas (switchgear room, manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, attics).
  1. Wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses at all times and respirator when required).
  1. Repetitive use of arms, hands and fingers.
  1. Able to work 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, overtime as required.  Weekends and evenings, as necessary.
